A PROFILE
Presidency College is the only Government College in Kangpokpi District of Manipur state, India. It was established in 1973 and is affiliated to Manipur University, Canchipur, Imphal, Manipur since 1980. It is recognised by UGC under section 2(F) and 12(B) of the UGC Act 1956 vide letter No. MU/8/9/82-UGC(A)/3744 dated 12/11/1982. Having established with modest infrastructure and sheer determination, the college has grown from strength to strength and has become one of the best centres of learning in the state. It is located at Motbung, a picturesque tribal village through which runs the Asian Highway 1 and National Highway 39. Since its inception, the college has introduced both General and Honours for undergraduate Degree Courses in various subjects in Arts and Science streams. Besides these, parallel three years Career Oriented Degree Courses as well as One year Certificate Course in vocational streams under UGC have been introduced in Mushroom cultivation and Sericulture from the session 2013. One Year Diploma Course in IT & ITES has been introduced from 2018 session.
Further, Four Year Undergraduate Programme (FYUP) aligned with the National Education Policy (NEP 2020) has been introduced in the College from the 2022-23 academic session. Presidency College, Motbung is trying its best to commensurate with globalisation so as to meet the aspirations of the new generation and learners to impart value-based quality education to its students for a better future.
ADMINISTRATION
Presidency College Motbung is run by an administrative team led by its Principal under the Directorate of Higher and Technical Education, Government of Manipur. Dr. Sheikhohao Kipgen is the Principal of the college. He is supported by a team of senior teachers, Heads of Department of different subjects and a team of administrative staff.

COURSES OFFERED
Undergraduate Courses
The college offers undergraduate Hounours and General Courses in two streams – Arts and Science. The combination of subjects, syllabi and curricula for the courses are strictly as per prescribed pattern of the ordinance of Manipur University Eight-semester system. The Degree Courses consist of eight semesters, each having 90 working days. The courses lead to the award of the degree of Bachelor of Arts and Bachelor of Science respectively. Subjects offered for the undergraduate courses are:
Arts: English, Manipuri, Education, Economics, Political Science, History, Mathematics, Anthropology, Philosophy
Science: Anthropology, Botany, Chemistry, Physics, Mathematics, Zoology, Economics
Vocational Courses
The college also offers UGC sponsored three years Career Oriented Vocational Degree courses as well as One Year Certificate courses in Sericulture and Mushroom Cultivation. Besides these, the college also conducts 1 Year Diploma Course in IT & ITES from 2018 under Rashtriya Uchchatar Shiksha Abhiyan (RUSA).
FACILITIES
- Library
The Presidency College has a well-equipped library where students and teachers can access to text books, reference books, journals, magazines, newspapers etc. Efforts to facilitate e-books in its library is under process.
- Hostel
Well-maintained Hostel facility is available for girl students in the college campus.
- Sports
The college has an extensive, well maintained playground which facilitates various outdoor sport disciplines. The College also keeps a spacious multipurpose hall which also serves to host different events of indoor sports. The college produces different national sport persons in the last few years. The football team of the college won runners-up title in the inter college football tournament – 2017 held at Regional College, Lilong Chajing under the sponsorship of Directorate of Higher & Technical Education, Govt. of Manipur.
- Swimming Pool
The College has a well maintained swimming pool to facilitate its staff and students for a healthy lifestyle. It aims to produce good swimmers for various competitions.
- Institutional Level Biotech Hub
An institutional level biotech hub under the sponsorship of Department of Biotechnology under the Ministry of Science & Technology, Govt. of India has started functioning in the Department of Botany of this College. It imparts research works, consultancy and extension services not only to the teachers and students of this college but also to various institutions nearby.
- National Service Scheme (NSS) Unit
About 100 students of the college (both girls and boys) are enrolled as NSS volunteers of the NSS Unit of the college. Regular programmes like observation of different national days as well as special programmes including tree plantation, cleanliness, and beautification services in the college campus are conducted by this unit.
- Research Projects
Many teachers of this college are presently undergoing UGC-minor research projects in different disciplines which include Zoology, Botany, Anthropology, Physics, History etc.
ADMISSIONS
Candidates seeking admission to the first semester of the degree courses should have passed the Higher Secondary or its equivalent Examination from a recognised Board or Council. The minimum percentage of marks eligible for admission and procedure of admission shall be decided from time to time depending on the courses applied.
